Me and my selves, 2023
Who am I?
I am a creator named Domenic Henderson, born and raised in South Florida as a Peruvian-American, alongside 3 brothers that have always challenged me to be my best self. Even if I didn't know what "self" I wanted to be most of the time. One way or the other, I strived to excel in whatever I set my mind to.
It wasn't until I attended middle and high school for art, that I began to know where I wanted to lean most of my energy into — the world of visual arts. The art of visualizing my thoughts. Visual arts gave me a place where I could expand my mind onto and into whatever physical and/or digital craft I wanted. Combine them even. The canvas for expressing my wild nature seemed horizonless for the first time. I could be anything or anyone with the power of visuals.
Ever since I discovered who I "could be," not exactly who I was, I have been chasing that evolving creative self incessantly. It took completing my B.A. in Fine Arts at the University of Florida, and eventually moving to colorful Colorado, to convince me that I was never going to reach the self I envisioned early on in development. The self I thought I could reach was not exactly unreachable, but instead was an everchanging presence that could not sit still creatively speaking.
As a result of years of wrangling my plethoric self, I came to the conclusion that I am in fact a multidimensional body of creativity. Creativity that is bent on visually telling story after story and expressing feeling after feeling with whatever medium and muse I got my hands on.
I am an artist.
